Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

• The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering - assessment - appropriate nursing judgment - and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding - health teaching - health counseling
• provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being
• and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider
• The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient - whether an individual - family - group - or community
• The APN NP practices in Outpatient and Inpatient Mental Health and the Emergency Department to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
• The NP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management
• Major duties/functions include - but are not limited to: Practice includes health promotion and maintenance - disease prevention - crisis intervention - management of psychiatric illnesses - patient/family and staff education - community referrals and the interdisciplinary coordination of care
• Serve as a clinical expert in psychiatric/ mental health interventions including the prescription - renewal and modification of psychiatric medications in accordance with the Medical Center Policy
• Provides Ongoing collaboration across healthcare settings with peers - physicians and appropriate others on the health team
• Independently manages assigned patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
• Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
• Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
• Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
• Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
• Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
• Provides education to patients and their families
• Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes

• Independently practices as a NP providing a full range of care utilizing treatment guidelines in the delivery of high-quality care

• Leads the delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice - improving outcomes of panel/program
